BRIAN
CLIFFORD OBITUARY (1938 -2021) |
I have recently received an obituary for a former Tottenham boy who few
people would now recall. Clearly Brian Clifford, from humble beginnings,
went on to create a name for himself in journalism, television, and
horse racing and, in later years, he was a much loved and respected
member of the community in Sissinghurst and Cranbrook in Kent.
Brian Clifford had grown up in Philip Lane, Tottenham during the early
post war years and had attended Downhills Infants, Primary and Downhills
Central School. It would appear that in his youth he was also a good
footballer and was once on the Spurs books for a short while. Please read the full biography for Brian that was published in the very Parish magazine that he had helped to create. |

Growing up in Tottenham Brian
Clifford lived mostly along Philip Lane Tottenham, firstly at number 294
and later at 259 Philip Lane. He was later to live in Clonmell Road,
which was located off Philip Lane, but I am unsure whether this was
after his marriage. His home in Philip Lane was very close to Downhills School, which is where he attended the Infants, Primary and then Downhills Central School. Brian was also the Head Chorister at the local St Philips Church and also attended activities in the Church hall next to Downhills School.
