The street party was organised to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II but also,more importantly, to bring the community of Summerhill Road together. And what better road than Summerhill Road, having been here since the 1850's, which has seen many changes in it's time.

The Golden Jubilee Street party was therefore useful as a springboard to promote an interest and pride in the community and to launch a number of local projects. This theme was also expressed in the following poem which was composed specifically for the event.
